As a pioneer and supporter of FSC, WWF China Project (WWF China) has been promoting the development of FSC in China, and has been working hard to build the FSC China working group. In March 2001, WWF promoted the establishment of the forest certification working group in China, which was affiliated to the Chinese Academy of forestry, as a neutral forum to promote the development of forest certification in china. By the end of 2005, under the joint efforts of WWF, China and the Chinese Academy of forestry, the FSC China working group process was officially launched in order to formulate China's FSC standards and promote the development of FSC in china. In March 2006, the founding ceremony of the Chinese working group was held in Beijing.
FSC is an independent non government organization, non-profit, its mission is to develop by the principles of forest management and widely accepted standard, promote the worldwide responsible, good for society and economically viable forest management on the environment. FSC represented by the environmental protection organization, from more than 70 countries of the timber trade associations, government departments, forestry organizations, local residents and social groups and forestry wood products certification, the international center is located in the original Mexico Oaxaca, the capital city of Oaxaca, in February 2003 moved to bonn. FSC is a mature and perfect forest certification system at present.
FSC's main task is: assessment, authorization and supervision of certification bodies, to provide guidance and services for the development of certification standards for countries and regions; through education and training and demonstration activities to improve the ability of national forest certification and sustainable forest management.
FSC has established a global network, including the FSC International Center, the national initiative and regional offices.
FSC itself does not directly identify forests, it is a standard setting body and an accreditation body. It has formulated a globally unified "FSC principles and standards" and has recognized certification bodies for certification. As of January 2006, FSC recognized 15 certification bodies. Certified enterprises have the right to use the FSC logo.
